Uche Ignites Dominant Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Despite entering their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a comfortable win that all but guarantees them a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their upcoming fixture against Finnish KuPS ought to be sufficient to secure direct passage to the last 16, particularly following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity
This match offered a chance for several Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning since arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive match.
The Shelbourne team that had concluded their domestic season proved no match even for a largely second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were already depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.
Control Asserted from the Start
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, fizzing a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official waved away the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal striker did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
